3 more LDP columns posted: Enjoy!

Check out three more columns from August, 2006, which I just posted, won’t you?

* Aug. 15 — The main event at the WSOP wound up being the “Jamie Gold Show”, but it’s really more than that. Anyone can qualify (or pay the $10,000) and sit alongside the top pros in the game. The WSOP embraces all players.

* Aug. 22 — Speaking of Jamie Gold, he gave all players an interesting lesson in how to play a tall stack in a tournament. I pitch in my two cents’ worth on playing when you’re the chip leader and can smell the top prize!

* Aug. 29 — If you’re new to Texas hold’em in card rooms, you may not have run across a play called the straddle. Although the move isn’t popular, it can cost you chips when an opponent uses it. Here’s how to play against the straddler.

Ho-Ho-Ho & check out “We Are Marshall”

Hey, just ol’ LuckyDog here wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Was back to W.Va. last week for the premiere of “We Are Marshall” and I’ve been trying to catch up ever since. The movie is good and the story is great (I covered the disaster for my hometown paper back in Huntington in 1970, and Warner Bros. did a good job of telling it like it was.)

If you see the flick and have any reax or questions, let me know. I’m curious to know what people think about it…

Casino Royale action OK, poker scenes a bust

Posted by Russ Scott on December 8th, 2006

At a co-worker’s suggestion, I went to see Casino Royale tonight. My friend said I’d probably be interested in the movie’s poker scenes.

Hmmm… I’d give the action scenes about three stars. After all, it’s James Bond! But the poker action? Zero stars sounds about right!

I’ll cut the film a little slack because it’s trying to make the poker game seem exciting. But man, whoever choreographed the poker scenes probably never played in a real card room. The players splashed chips all over the place, they completely disregarded poker’s showdown rules, and more. You wouldn’t want any of these guys in your friendly home game!

Oh yeah, they even poisoned one of the players! For a few seconds, he was drawing dead!
