READY FOR PAD SEASON 3 TONIGHT!

Posted by Russ Scott on December 31st, 2007

Here’s the lineup for tonight’s Season 3 opener on Poker After Dark on NBC.

The least-familiar face is that of Ken Light, the first amateur to appear on the show thanks to his online victory back in the spring.

The rest you know: Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow and Scotty Nguyen (seated in that order, with Ken in 6th position).

Ken was allowed to select his opponents for this “Dream Match.” He chose his favorite players — and a pretty tough bunch at that! I think as a group they have won 21 World Series bracelets, and of course, Hellmuth and Nguyen are past World Champions!

Good luck, Ken!!!

Amateur players will get a rare glimpse of what it’s like to take the felt against the best of the best starting Monday night on NBC’s Poker After Dark and LuckyDogPoker.com.

Ken Light, a Rutgers University grad student who normally can be found in online micro-limit games, hit the jackpot last spring when he outlasted a field of 1,395 on Full Tilt Poker to win a seat on the season-three opening show of Poker After Dark.

Ken picked pros Scotty Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman and Mike Matusow for his “Dream Match.” He picked LuckyDogPoker.com as the site for his blog of the event during each night’s episode.

In nearly “real time,” Ken will describe his strategies and observations as he watches the episodes for the first time. The one-table, winner-take-all tournament was taped in October at the South Point Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.

I don’t know who wins the $120,000, but Ken says the show will make good TV in my current LuckyDog Poker column.

Watch the six PAD episodes (or record them for viewing later) and come to this site each night for Ken’s behind-the-scenes reports! You also can comment on the action and offer your own thoughts on how certain hands should have been played.

8 more LuckyDog columns posted

Eight additional LuckyDog Poker columns now are posted, including the current article setting the scene for next week’s historic Poker After Dark show launching a third season.

The show features the first-ever amateur player to compete in the one-table lineup. Ken Light, a Rutgers University grad student, won the seat last spring on Full Tilt Poker.

Other columns describe the shortcomings of mixed-game/fixed-limit tournaments, tips on how to play against a “donkey” who won’t fold, and how a winning strategy led to victory for a tournament rookie.
